WARZONE DOCUMENTARIES AT THE THESSALONIKI INTERNATIONAL DOCUMENTARY FESTIVAL

The new documentary of Sotiris Danezis’ WarZone Documentaries, directed by Dimitris Gerardis, will have its premiere on Thursday, March 18, at 22.30 at the "Olympion" cinema, as part of the 12th Thessaloniki International Documentary Festival.

It is a documentary without narration that was filmed in Haiti just after the deadly earthquake of last January. Among the main characters of the documentary are two volunteers of the Hellenic Rescue Team’s mission to Haiti, a Greek woman who is working at the country’s UN headquarters, and 22-year old Jean-Pierre Wismond Exantus, the rescue of whom, eleven days after the catastrophic earthquake, made the news around the world through the international news agencies.

The 75-minute documentary of Mega Channel’s awarded series, entitled "The Miracle", was chosen for the official programme of the International Festival which is considered to be one of the most important in Europe.

Its version for television broadcast, with extra footage from the quake-hit area, will be presented by Mega Channel in two one-hour episodes on Sunday, March 21, and on Thursday, March 25.

Synopsis
Ten days after the catastrophic earthquake of January 12th in Haiti, a Greek volunteer rescue team arrives on the island. The government and the United Nations announce that the search for survivors in the ruins is finished. The Greek rescuers are told that they cannot offer any substantial help, they are told that they came too late. But as it was later proven, it was not too late for a "miracle"...

Saturday morning, on January 23, War Zone Documentaries’ crew finds some traces of life in the ruins of a hostel at downtown, Port-Au-Prince and starts filming the Greek and French rescue operation of 22-year old Jean Pierre Widmond Exantus who had been lying buried there for eleven days.

In a 2-hour documentary, Sotiris Danezis’ War Zone Documentaries present an incredible story in the words of the young Haitian and the Greek rescue team who, despite the delays, the difficulties, the bureaucracy and the recommendations by the authorities and the United Nations, traveled halfway around the world with the belief that it is never too late to save a human life.
